you can't i gave up on self tanner my legs were a streaky yuck mess. it does not matter if you exfoliate or not. they should take that crap right off the shelves. use the sun to get golden and some nice bronzers then you don't have to worry about being streaky.

i think the only way fake tan ever looks good is if u have a good base tan first, which kinda defeats the purpose!

Personally, I use the gradual color building lotions you can buy just about anywhere, and I don't get that problem. It might be the high concentration of pigment in whatever product you are using...Also, make sure you apply no longer than 5 minutes after you get out of the shower and always exfoliate in the shower prior to use. Good luck!

PS...Try rinsing yourself in cold water right before you get out of the shower to close your pores...
