Hair suddenly becoming crinkly and bent up! Is this normal?

I have always had very soft thick wavy dark hair. Suddenly one day I woke up and the hairs on the crown of my head were very crinkled.

When I would pull the crinkled hair out it wouldn't hurt most of the time and slide right out! There would be a white "bead" where the root of the hair is, but a pretty large one. I'm assuming the follicles are possibly getting clogged up which are deforming my hair, however this was also on hair that was already long and grown, not like it grew that way, it affected hair that was already there, but now I can see it's affecting the shorter hairs by the root too.

I have not used any dye in many months, I am 35 and have a few grays, but not many. I know grays can feel coarse and get "bendy" but even my grays aren't as crinkled as these hairs I speak of, and they are not gray.

Is this a normal part of aging hair? Please help me, I asked my friends and family and nobody has ever had this happen. I'm scared

i've been doing hair for a while and when i first noticed that the hair on the crown area of my client had gotten like a kinky curl she said that it started changing after she had a baby. so anytime i saw a resembance on different clients, even with new ones, i would ask them if they noticed this change after having a baby and most of them would say, "actually, now that you mention it, yes!"
